This workshop dives deep into the art of creating compelling and multi-dimensional characters that resonate with readers long after they’ve finished the story. Participants will explore how to craft rich character arcs, from their initial struggles to their ultimate growth, ensuring characters feel authentic and relatable. The session will also examine the importance of character motivations, desires, and internal conflicts, revealing how these elements drive the story forward.

In addition to focusing on protagonists, this workshop will highlight how to develop dynamic supporting characters that enhance the narrative and create meaningful connections with the main character. Participants will learn techniques to ensure that every character, no matter how small their role, contributes to the emotional depth and complexity of the story.

By the end of the workshop, writers will have actionable strategies to breathe life into their characters, making them memorable, impactful, and integral to a story that stays with readers.

Workshop Host

Charlotte Chipperfield is an author, writer of women's fiction, developmental editor, and book coach who empowers women and underrepresented authors through her platform, Her Narrative. With a focus on telling the stories of women finding their voices and unapologetically going for what they want, Charlotte weaves authenticity and empowerment into every story she writes and supports.

In addition to her fiction writing, Charlotte is a contributing author in the 2025 release of Soul Rising: Guidance for Navigating Your Spiritual Awakening, a non-fiction book exploring personal growth and transformation.

With years of experience in crafting compelling stories, Charlotte combines editorial expertise with compassion to help writers develop their unique voices and narratives. As a recognized public speaker and book judge for competitions such as the Independent Publishers of New England, Literary Arts PDX, and the Women's Fiction Writers Association, she has established herself as a leader in the publishing industry.

Through Her Narrative, Charlotte creates a space where authors can hone their writing skills through courses and community. She passionately advocates for voices that have historically been overlooked or marginalized, believing that stories have the power to challenge perceptions, build empathy, and enrich our collective narrative—a mission that drives her coaching, editing, and writing work.

  • This workshop is designed for writers of all levels, whether you're just starting out or refining a work-in-progress. If you want to create compelling, well-developed characters, this session is for you!

  • Not at all! While it can be helpful to apply the exercises to an existing project, you'll also get plenty of inspiration and tools to develop new characters from scratch.

  • The workshop will be hosted on Google Meet. After registering, you'll receive a link to join, and a reminder email will be sent the day before the session.

  • This workshop is designed to be accessible to all writers, regardless of budget. A $15 contribution is recommended to help cover costs, but you can choose what works for you. The $0.50 minimum is required because the registration platform doesn’t allow a $0 option.

  • Yes! A recording will be available after the session. However, attending live offers the added benefit of participating in the Q&A and workshopping exercises with other like-minded writers.
