Fall Writing Retreat in Portland, Oregon

A two-day writing retreat designed for novelists who identify as a woman. 

Imagine sitting down to write with the confidence that your story is unfolding in a way that will excite readers and attract publishers. This retreat will provide you with the tools and insight you need to structure a page-turning novel.

We’ll gather together to…

  • Have dedicated craft sessions on story structure, character development, and how to ‘show, not tell,’ and more!  

  • Have the time and space to write.

  • Learn the tools for taming self-doubt and imposter syndrome. 

  • Have a meaningful dialogue about our writing journeys within a supportive community. 

This Retreat is for:

Fiction writers who are writing their first or second novel who want to learn more about storytelling and the structural elements that make up a best-selling novel.

The retreat includes:

  • Two days of expert guided sessions to help you write your novel with greater ease. 

  • Continental breakfast each day.

  • Lunch each day.

  • Closing happy hour on Sunday (optional).

You'll leave having advanced your writing with clear next steps and a new community of like-minded writers.

Her Narrative was born to help aspiring authors craft their debut novel with greater ease and less self-doubt, NOW. 

Retreat details:

  • Dates: Saturday, September 28th - Sunday, September 29th. 

  • Time: 9 am - 4:30 pm 

  • Location: “The Study” Room at McMenamins Edgefield

    • 2126 SW Halsey St, Troutdale, OR 97060. A 20-minute drive from downtown Portland.

  • Price: Early bird pricing is $397 until August 1st, 2024. (Plus the Eventbrite fee)

    • Full ticket price will increase on August 2nd, 2024 to $499.

Retreat does not include:

  • While lodging is not included, the venue does offer rooms. You can learn more about rates here.  

  • Travel to and from the venue is not provided at this time. 

  • Drinks during the closing happy hour are not included in the ticket price. Attendees can open a tab at the bar.

  • Each day will follow a similar agenda:

    Breakfast: 9- 9:30 am

    Session #1: 9:30 - 11 am

    Break: 11 am - 11:15 am

    Session #2: 11:15 am - 12:30 pm

    Lunch 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

    Session #3: 1:30 pm - 3 pm

    Break: 3 pm - 3:15 pm

    Session #4: 3:15 - 4:30 pm

    On Sunday, there will be an optional closing happy hour.

  • Accommodations are not included. Make it a weekend getaway by booking your own lodging at the venue or make the journey to our retreat location just 20 minutes from downtown Portland. https://www.mcmenamins.com/edgefield

  • Transportation is not included. The venue is just 20 minutes from downtown Portland. Driving is recommended.

  • During registration, there is a field to communicate any dietary restrictions. We will do our best to accommodate. If after registration, you need to make a change, please contact me.
